Script Writing
What is a script?
A script is a text meant to be performed. It includes
- dialogue, which is what characters say
- stage directions, which are short notes about actions, movement, or emotion
Scripts are used for school skits, assembly plays, street plays, short videos, and role plays.
Standard format
Title: A short meaningful title.
Characters: List character names and a short role description.
Setting: Place and time.
Scenes: Use scenes if the place or time changes.
Dialogue and stage directions: Write the character name in capitals. Put actions in brackets.
Example:
RAHUL: I will fix it.
(Asha takes the phone away.)
Building a strong script
A script becomes interesting when it has a clear situation and change.
Beginning
- introduce the setting and characters
- show the problem quickly
Middle
- The problem grows
- characters disagree or make mistakes
- new information appears
Ending
- a solution is found
- a lesson is learned
- end with a clear final line
Example
Develop a script for a situation where a wallet is missing, and students are frantically
looking for it.
